Dr. Mustafa named Best Psychiatrist of the Year 2026

Our Vice Chairperson, Dr. Mustafa Abdulrahman Ali, has been named Best Psychiatrist of the Year 2026 at the Somali Health Awards (Abaalmarinta Halyeeyada Caafimaadka).

Dr. Mustafa is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the Medical Director of Habeeb Psychiatric Hospital. For the last six years he has treated and cared for our patients, on the wards and in our outpatient centres.

This award recognizes his dedication, and the work of the whole clinical team that stands with him every day.

Recognition

Hormuud Telecom names Dr. Habeeb Hero of the Year

Hormuud Telecom Somalia has recognized our founder, Dr. Abdirahman Ali Awaale (Dr. Habeeb), as Hero of the Year for his service to mental health in Somalia.

The award was presented by the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, at the "Hiigsiga Soomaaliya Caafimaad Qabta" (Towards a Healthy Somalia) event in Mogadishu.

For twenty years, Dr. Habeeb has cared for people who were turned away, hidden or chained, and has shown families that mental illness can be treated. This honour belongs to every patient, family and staff member who has been part of that journey.

International visit

Norway and Sweden visit Habeeb Psychiatric Hospital

The First Secretaries of the Embassies of Norway and Sweden to Somalia visited Habeeb Psychiatric Hospital in Mogadishu to see the mental health services we provide to patients and families.

Our founder, Dr. Abdirahman Ali Awaale, welcomed the delegation and showed them how the hospital cares for people living with mental illness, from treatment on the wards to support for families.

We are grateful to Norway and Sweden for their interest in mental health in Somalia. Visits like this help bring international attention to a need that is too often overlooked, and open the door to new partnerships.

Training

30 women trained in primary care for mental health

Over three months, Habeeb trained 30 female mental health staff in primary care for mental health. They learned to recognize common mental health conditions early, support patients, and refer them to the right care.

Training women matters in Somalia, where many women and girls feel more comfortable speaking about their mental health with another woman.
